Studio Philosophy

Miss Laurie & Miss Lindsey feel that every student should be able to enjoy the art of dance in a fun environment while learning proper technique and correct terminology. Classes are structured to keep each student engaged and individual attention is given on a regular basis. All classes are taught by either Miss Laurie or Miss Lindsey with high school age assistants. The goal of all classes is gain knowledge of dance in an upbeat, supportive environment.

Recreational Dance Classes:

Recreational dance classes are offered age three to adults. These once per week classes are designed to be structured so each dancer feels their most successful in learning. The season for this program runs 25 weeks from mid-September to early April, finishing with a spring performance. All students are required to take ballet classes, tap and jazz are optional and offered depending on age. We teach our classes in what we call 'umbrella' style: ballet also includes lyrical and contemporary; tap includes hoofing, Broadway and classic styles; jazz includes straight jazz, musical theater and hip hop. We find this best so students are exposed to all styles without parents having to pay for multiple classes in one discipline.

Ballet & Modern Technique Program:

This program is designed for the student who has a deep appreciation for the discipline of ballet, beginning in fourth grade. We offer five levels of ballet and two levels of modern dance. In ballet, students will be exposed to various teaching methods including Vaganova, Cecchetti and American. In modern, students will work in Horton & Graham techniques as well as release and improvisation. These classes are one to three times weekly and are based on ability of the individual student, not their age.

Additional Training Opportunities:

  1. Broadway Dance Center Trip: Each April, Miss Laurie travels with Senior Line Dancers to New York City to take classes at the world renowned dance studio Broadway Dance Center. These classes are in a standard classroom setting where students get individual corrections and attention.

  1. Master Classes at LSD: We bring the big city instructors to Maine! Most recently, Leslie Feliciano of Broadway Dance Center taught at LSD. Leslie is a well known master teacher in the hip hop dance community.

  1. Independent Study: This program has been established at several local high schools in order for high school seniors who are looking to pursue dance in college can train in ballet and study dance history during their school day.
